Late swarm

Post by Wally »

Found a swarm in Keith's queen yard yesterday, Sept. 25. About volley ball size. Too big to be an abscond. Helped his employee box it.

Wow, that's nuts! I've seen and captured a bunch of late swarms in the fall, but not a single one was ever bigger than a softball. And none stayed or became viable... They were all "suicide swarms".

Yep. Normally, a swarm that size only comes from a healthy hive that is destroyed, as in a hollow tree falling and they abscond, but in this case, there was no known similar source. Also, it was within 30 feet of a line of Keith's hives.
