I had tree work done last week, and a volunteer tulip poplar that was in a bad place and got too big for me to deal with had to go. I enjoyed watching it grow but didn't realize how old and large they needed to be before they started blooming. I had the tree people top the poplar at about 9 feet. They suggested to angle the cut at 45 degrees to allow water to shed and make the remaining tree last longer. I plan on putting up a tree stand David gave me a few years ago and use this as a location for a bait hive.

I hope to get the bait hive up this week, but in the mean time, I have discovered that the tulip poplar is a good place to spray Swarm Commander. I have had 2 swarms go to this tree and vacuuming them was easy--an unexpected benefit.
