Mother & Daughter in Nuc

Post by Jacobs »

The queen I had in an observation hive on National Honey Bee Day also had a capped queen cell on the visible frame. I left a frame with a capped queen cell with the remaining bees at the house when I loaded these into the observation hive. Today I went into this nuc to see what happened since the queen cells had time to finish up. I saw an unmarked queen that appears to be mated and on another frame, spotted the marked queen that has had a stiff leg ever since I brought her home from Bill Hurd's re-queening efforts. I marked the unmarked queen, and put the nuc back together. I am hoping that weather will cooperate so that I can go into this nuc for a Friday morning bee presentation. I would LOVE to be able to have both marked queens on the visible frame for folks to see.

The daughter is the lighter queen, the mother is darker and just below the daughter. They were on the same frame when I opened the nuc and all I had to do was wait for them to get closer to get this picture.
