Thank you Rob!

I just wanted to publically thank Rob Jacobs for stopping by our home several times throughout the spring, summer, and fall and helping my husband and I understand our colony. Rob--we received the beetle traps the other day from BM. Also--thanks to Wally and to Steve from Brushy Mtn. for giving us s...

preseason inspection

hi to Rob and Wally,

I would love to get a mentor's opinion on the health of our hive before cold weather sets in. Any chance of a visit sometime in early September?
You've been a great help to us in the past, and we certainly appreciate it.

fall flow?

Hi there, I live across the street from Buffalo Creek near Lake Daniel, and I see golden rod just beginning to bloom, and I also see more wild grape vines blooming and the bees have been bringing home a fair amount of pollen. My husband plays tennis will Olaf Ruppell, and Olaf says to go ahead and f...

overwintering question

If the space within the hive bodies is too expansive for the number of bees-will they have a difficult time keeping the colony warm? Is there ever a time when you reduce the number of brood boxes/supers? thanks.

update

Hi Rob! I receive the queen from Jack Tap via overnight mail and inserted the queen cage in the hive. I checked last Saturday and I saw the queen--so I know she's alive at least. Without my reading glasses it was a bit difficult to detect whether or not she was laying eggs. I watched her abit and sh...

mystery bees

Latest Update. The queen was destroyed yesterday at the advice of Wally. (Rob and Wally--thanks again for coming over and giving your assessment.) He confirmed that we had a drone-laying queen. I ordered a new queen from Brushy Mtn that I will be picking up on Saturday morning. In the meantime--Rob ...

mystery bees

Hi Rob and Wally, I checked the hive yesterday (Saturday) afternoon because of the rainy weather ahead. I saw very few of what I perceived to be capped worker brood on one frame (other than on the frame you donated, Rob). I saw a few more well-placed eggs in cells. I saw a few more capped drone than...

thank you Rob!

To all new beekeepers---we have a great group of mentors out there. Rob Jacobs, our GCBA president, visited us at the crack of dawn today and looked through our hive to try and solve a mystery as to whether or not the queen was alive. Rob found the queen--and made some suggestions as to what to do n...

Dear Mentors,

We are looking for someone who can stop by and confirm that our queen is dead, unless you can coach us through it via this forum. Day 10 and no eggs that we can see; otherwise everything looks fine. We live in Greensboro near Wesley Long Hospital. Thanks--

Queen?

Thanks for your help--I purchased bees 10 days ago and cannot see eggs, although the bees don't seem particularly unhappy. We tried to locate the queen today--but couldn't. We see signs of strong of nectar/pollen storage. I think we need a new queen. Any recommendations?

After a purchase of bees on 3/27, I believe that our queen is dead, and we need to purchase a new one. Please let me know if you have queens available for purchase now. Thanks--
