Cut Out April 03, 2016

Great day in the bee yard today. Sally and I helped with a cut out last Sunday. Working on getting all of the pictures together. In the short video below, the first hive shown is from that cut out. The gentleman who owned the home wanted to start his own hive from the cut out. I took over my equipme...

Re: Honey Bees In A House

Update, on bees in the house. After smoking the opening and watching the bees, came to the conclusion that the bees were robbers from another hive. Sprayed bee quick all along the bottom of the siding, after a while saw less robbers coming in. Left the remaining bottle of bee quick with resident to ...

Re: Honey Bees In A House

On another note...weather permitting I do have a cutout scheduled for next Saturday. Homeowner does want to expose the hive and take out all of the comb and bees. I am going by later to take pictures of exactly where they are and make "game" plan. If anyone is interested in joining me when we do the...

Re: Honey Bees In A House

Thanks Wally, I will let you know how it goes. Rob, my thoughts exactly, since I did not see any pollen coming in. I have not been inside of the house. My plan for today was to go ahead and set up a box where they are coming in and out, with some old brood comb and lemon grass oil, and a brood frame...

Re: Honey Bees In A House

Here is a video, quality is not too good. I'm still trying to decide if it is an active hive or robbers.

I did not see any of them bringing in pollen.

Re: Honey Bees In A House

Correct, heading over there in again to see how they are coming and going this morning.

Since I do not do carpentry work, someone other than myself would have to tackle the job of cutting away walls.

Honey Bees In A House

Received a call a call from my step-daughter today asking me to stop by an in-law's house to check on some honey bees. They are located in the house. The house is an OLDER house and has white shingled siding. They are going in between the siding and wall from underneath the siding. I think the sidin...

Re: Jan & Feb Feeding

My girls seem to have plenty of honey stores, but they enjoyed the sugar block I gave them today. They have been busy bringing in a lot of pollen today. Just about every worker coming back has pollen. Pete (the hubby) said there was a tree blooming around the pond. I have not been out there yet to s...

If he is not able to get in touch with the home owners, maybe he can put out a swarm box in a public area. Who knows he might get lucky.

My First Swarm Call

Received a call about a swarm in a holly tree on Thursday. I was not able to go bet them until yesterday. Between the rain showers, was able to get them in a eight frame hive body. Left them overnight and picked them up early this morning. Set the hive up in the beeyard and let the fly. They oriente...

Re: Bayer CropScience launches “Feed a Bee” initiative

I ordered some, but have not received mine yet. I did however receive a box of seeds from the Bee Buffer Project. Going to get my plot ready this weekend to plant. Received 10 pounds of free seeds. I can't wait to see them in bloom. I know they all won't come up, but hoping for a beautiful plot of w...

Keeping The Birds Away

A good day in the bee yard. Painted honey supers, moved some empty hives around in to get ready to do splits next weekend. The owls seem to be working, the birds have stayed away from the hives today.

Re: March Cut-Out

Good day in the bee yard. This is the queen from a split made on 06/10/2014. All queens (my three hives) are laying good. The cutout hive is adjusting well. They are attaching the combs to the frames nicely. The queen is laying, saw eggs, larva and recently capped brood. Will get a photo of her next...

Re: March Cut-Out

It has been hard waiting to see what is going on in the hive. I did not get a chance to check them today, will check on Sunday. They are bringing in a lot of pollen, so I take that as a good sign
