Sideline uncapper

I am selling my sideline uncapper. Perhaps I am just a little nostalgic and like uncapping with a knife like my grandfather did. This sells from Brushy Mountain for $1450 plus tax for a total of $1550. I am selling it for $1200. Pick up only. It has been used for less than one season and is in excel...

Re: looking for queens

Contact George Page in Kernersville.
honey-page.com
He gets extra queens with all his packages and most likely has some.

If your nucs came queenless you should go back to the supplier and get them to make it right.

Sourwood flow

Was wondering if anyone has been to the mountains lately?
I have bees up there and was wondering if perhaps the bloom on sourwood was gong a little longer than usual? Since our spring flow went late I thought sourwood might be affected as well.
Any observations would be helpful.

Re: Bee colonies collapsing as workers abandon hives - WRAL

I appreciate the feedback. The article that was linked to seems to be discussing prior hive losses and does not directly discuss this year's losses. While I have no basis for a scientific conclusion, I would like to point out the following areas of concern. Lack of genetic diversity - most commercia...

Re: Bee colonies collapsing as workers abandon hives - WRAL

I certainly understand the concern. As for the cause, all we have is speculation at this point. Last spring there was a resurgence of the honeybee and swarming. Now we have losses that can not be explained. I do believe it is real. I have spoken with other beekeepers that are sound in practice and h...

Re: hive robbing?

If robbing has started there is very little you can do to stop it. Yes, you can do all the things suggested, but this hive has been identified by all the others around it as weak and a potential target for easy pickings! If possible you can move this hive to another yard which will often help. If th...

Re: Small Hive Beetles

Sun is the cure. I have one outyard that I have had nothing but trouble with for years due to being in complete shade. I have also had a few hives completely destroyed by SHB. One hive drove the bees out without a queen and they absconded. When I picked up the frames they rained out SHB. Often in my...

How do these things happen?

I made 10 splits the other day and requeened 3 days later. I like to manually release my queens so I went back yesterday to take care of it in the rain. I have a beach umbrella that I use for shelter so it really wasnt too bad. I went to go into one of my splits and noticed that the queen cage (JZBZ...
