NUCs for sale - $175

I have four 5-frame NUCs (deep frames) for sale, all with newly mated queens, for $175. The bees can be picked up in Jamestown at 303 Fairidge Dr., or if you live within 10 miles I'm willing to deliver them and install them for you. If interested, the D-Coates plywood NUC hives they are currently in...

Good to know - thanks Wally. If no one wants them I'll start some NUCs in the next day or so.

Virgin Queens?

Anyone want a virgin queen? A buddy of mine had an "almost" swarm today - they ended up collecting on the the front and bottom of the hive. I found four queens in the mass of bees and put them in cages. The weather got nasty and most bees went back in the hive. When the weather improved, we did a qu...

Swarms 4/9/19

Two swarms on Tuesday. Came home about 2pm to hear a roar in the backyard. A hive was in the middle of swarming despite the fact that it had been split several weeks ago. They settled 25 feet in my neighbor's tree. After trying to coax them into a swarm trap that was attached to an extension ladder,...

Swarms-4/4/19

Came home to a swarm trap full of bees today. Later, the hive in my front yard swarmed and the bees drifted away - not sure where they ended up. As I drove through the neighborhood looking for them, I met someone that had bees enter her home through the oven vent. They seem to be setting up shop the...

Swarm 3/23/19

A friend of mine that keeps his bees in my neighborhood (Cedarwood, in Jamestown) had one of his hives swarm today. They stayed on a low-lying limb of a cedar tree and they're now in an eight frame deep.

Thinking about using bee escapes to harvest my honey this summer. Anyone out there have any experience using them?

Swarm 6/28/18

Got home about 5 pm on Thursday and found a softball size cluster hanging on the bottom of an empty hive in my back bee yard. Put out a plywood nuc (just happened to build a few a week ago for splits next year - I encourage all my fellow newbies to get a few cheap nucs with extra frames "just in cas...

"Requeening" question

so....I recently installed a pack of bees into a new hive. After a few days I opened the hive to see if the queen was released and found that the candy was completely eaten and the queen was dead in her cage. Being new to beekeeping, I got pretty anxious :). It was a very sunny but not particularly ...
